After weeks of only mediocre bass fishing at Clear Lake, the fishing has broken wide open. This past week saw fishermen enjoying some of the best topwater action of the season.

With the current slowing on the river, bass fishing has gotten tougher over the last week on the upper river area of Barnett Reservoir. Surface temperatures rising back into the 90s hasn’t helped.

Charles City Authorities were searching the James River last night near Lawrence Lewis Jr. Park in Charles City County for a 16-year-old boy who disappeared underwater while swimming, authorities said. The teenager, who was not identified, was swimming toward a fishing pier at the park about 3:30 p.m.
